Audubon has numerous opportunities to get involved at our center. This is a special way to earn community service hours! Please RSVP to the Center for work days so we can plan appropriately; (415) 388-2524. Occasional Saturday opportunities are available, call for more information.

Join us in one any of the following:

  1. Volunteer Naturalists Wanted! Learn how to lead our Audubon’s Birds schoolyard bird walks, in-class programs, and Center based field trips. A 4 session training period is required. Click here for more details. Contact person: , ext. 111.
  2. Bay Shore Studies: Save the Bay, one 10-year-old at a time! Volunteer with the Bay Shore Studies Program and we'll teach you how to effectively lead and inspire small groups of 4th - 6th graders through our intertidal zone. Volunteer training begins Monday, November 7 at 9:15 am. For more information call Sandy at (415)-345-1145 or emaill .
  3. Front desk: Greet visitors in the nature store. Sell store merchandise. Answer phone calls and assist with office work as needed. Contact person: Gretchen Grani, ext. 113.
  4. Weekend events: Lend a hand during weekend events, family programs, and birthday parties. Contact person: Wendy Dalia, (415) 388-2524, or email .
  5. Restoration Work Days: 2011-2012 dates to be determined. Help remove invasive plants, plant natives, collect seeds, and enjoy being outdoors with our staff and other volunteers. Contact person for Youth & Adult Volunteer Opportunities: Kerry Wilcox, ( ; 415-388-2524 x 101). Please download adult and youth/child waivers, complete, and bring with you when you come participate in a work day.
  6. Shorebird Survey:  Experience with shorebirds required. Survey shorebirds with a spotting scope from the shores of Richardson Bay Audubon Center.  Scope available.  Please contact Kathi Borgmann ( ; 415-388-2524 x 104) or Kerry Wilcox (; 415-388-2524 x 101) if you would like to participate.
  7. Waterbird Survey:  Experience with waterbirds required. Survey waterbirds with a spotting scope from the shores of Richardson Bay (November – March).  Limited number of scopes available.  Please contact Kathi Borgmann (; 415-388-2524 x 104) or Kerry Wilcox (; 415-388-2524 x 101) if you would like to participate.
  8. Shorebird & Waterbird Survey Scribe:  No experience necessary.  Please contact Kathi Borgmann (kborgmann@audubon.org; 415-388-2524 x 104) or Kerry Wilcox (; 415-388-2524 x 101) if you would like to participate.
  9. Counting & Sorting Invertebrates: This work involves removing small organisms from sediment samples under a microscope. We will be sorting invertebrates into groups and counting the number of invertebrates in each sample. This work requires a gentle hand, good eyesight, and patience. Times for this activity are flexible. You can come any day for one hour or stay for 4. Please contact Lara Martin ( ; 415-680-4944) if you would like to participate.
  10. Special Projects: Volunteer on an as-needed basis, with special projects such as mailings, construction work, restoration projects, building maintenance, garden and trail maintenance, etc. Contact person: Kerry Wilcox, (415) 388-2524 ext. 101.
  11. Earth Day 2012 Saturday, April (exact date TBD), 9am-1pm
    Celebrate Earth Day by bringing your family and friends for a morning of naturalist led explorations, bird watching, restoration and clean-up. Activities are appropriate for all ages, including young children. FREE EVENT.
