Audubon Youth Leadership Internship Available
March through June

Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary is offering paid internships for energetic High School youth with a passion for the environment. The Youth Interns will gain experience and knowledge in restoration and science and will learn to convey their restoration projects to children, their peers, and adults as part of environmental education programs. Internships are 16 weeks and will culminate in a final project or presentation.
The intern will work under the supervision of the Master Teacher Naturalist in addition to working with other Audubon staff. Intern responsibilities include:
- Committing to regular weekly after-school restoration work
- Committing to two weekend work days during internship
- Participating in restoration and science projects, including removing invasive plants and weeds and watering plants.
- Leading an educational program based on restoration projects
- Monitoring marine debris on a small island in the bay, removing trash.
- Planting native plants and assisting with plant propagation
- Leading one restoration workday
- Completing a final research project or education project to present to their community, school, and the Audubon community
Equipment:
Small shovels and weed pullers. The use of gloves when pulling weeds, planting, watering, or picking up trash. Riding to a nearby island in Richardson Bay in a small boat.
Qualifications:
Reliable, self-motivated, creative, team player
Willing to work outdoors in varied weather including light rain
Committed to the entire 16 weeks
Interest in the outdoor environment
School Permit to Employ and Work
Physical Requirements:
Occasional lifting, carrying, and restoration work (digging, planting, watering, and carrying buckets of approximately 20 to 25 lbs that contain plants).
Schedule:
Two hours per day, one day per week, after school hours, 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, three weekend days during the 16 week period on Saturdays, 9am to 1pm.
