Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary, Tiburon, CA has an unpaid internship opportunity designed to provide an intern with the opportunity to learn to develop and implement early childhood and family environmental education programs as well as restoration field work.
The internship will afford the intern the opportunity to interact with and learn from experts in the fields of education and science, gain exposure to the operations of a non-profit organization, and learn the workings of putting together a conservation newsletter.
The intern will work under the supervision of the Office Manager and Education Director. This internship will provide the intern with an opportunity to develop the skills necessary to:
- Teach and lead educational field trip and camp programs, including their planning;
- Work with educational staff to review and modify curriculum;
- Develop teacher resource materials for outreach;
- Participate in sanctuary management, including learning about trail work and beach cleanup, and other activities involving the operation of a conservation sanctuary;
- Participate in waterbird and shorebird surveys and data collection;
- Participate in science research and restoration work, including learning how to collect invertebrates in the field, identify invertebrates using a microscope, collecting sediment core samples, and setting up traps and nets as part of fish monitoring; and
- Participate in the production of a newsletter.
Candidates should have the ability to interact well with children, teens and adults, be willing to work in weather conditions such as light rain and moderately cold temperatures, and do gardening and yard work. This unpaid internship will have a varied schedule that will include some evenings and/or weekends.
